Baku declared “World Sports Capital” in 2026
on December 16, with the participation of state officials and representatives of the Federation of European sports capitals and cities (ACES), the official signing ceremony of the memorial plaque “World Sports Capitals” was held.
The title of” World Sports Capital " was officially transferred from Monaco to Baku.
Eldar Azizov, head of the Baku City Executive Power, said that Baku was chosen as the "sports capital of the world". He said that sports are developing in all regions of our country as a result of the attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev.
Minister of youth and sports Farid Gayibov recalled that Azerbaijan hosted many international competitions. According to him, more interesting competitions await Baku next year.
President of the Federation of European sports capitals and cities (ACES) Jan Francisco Lupattelli stressed that Baku has always paved the way for the development of sports. He noted that this city has always been distinguished by quality sports facilities.
