Territory

The territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan is 86.6 thousand km2, the population is 9 million.

The Republic of Azerbaijan is located in the eastern part of the South Caucasus, on the western shore of the Caspian Sea.

The total length of its borders is 3472 kilometers. Of this, 825 kilometers is the water border.

It borders 765 km to the south with Iran and 15 km with Turkey, 390 km to the north with Russia, 480 km to the north-west with Georgia, and 1007 km to the West with Armenia.

There are major cities such as Sumgayit, Ganja, Nakhchivan, Sheki, Gabala, Lankaran, Zagatala, Guba, Mingachevir, Khachmaz, Shamakhi.

The largest lake in the world-the Caspian Sea-has an area of 400000 km2 and a depth of 1025 meters. However, the size and hydrological characteristics of the Caspian Sea allow it to be called a sea.

Highest mountain peak: Bazarduzu - 4466 meters

The largest rivers: Kura (1515 km), Araz (1072 km).
